Be kind to your heart: 5
tips to keep your heart healthy and plaque free
Celeste Gleave,
founder of SHEROES United, a non-profit organization that identifies female role
models; and a past president of Go Red, a national campaign by the
American Heart Association, gives us her top 5 tips on how to keep your heart
healthy.
1- Know
your numbers such as blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and cholesterol. “The works”
is what she calls it. Knowing where your body is at will help you be able
to see where there might need to be improvements.
2- Think about
your diet. When it comes to your diet, she stresses, a balanced diet is key.
3- Know your
family history. Facts about family history with disease or medical conditions are
vitally important parcels of information.
4-
Set up a great “feasible” exercise program, even if that means only
exercising for 30 minutes a day.
When Fox 13 interviewed Todd
Eldredge, President and CEO of CardioRisk Laboratories, he related the CIMT procedure to having plaque on a tooth. "If you
have plaque on a tooth, you have it in your whole mouth," he said. "This
is the same kind of concept that if you find plaque in the carotid
artery, you're going to find it systemically."
