CardioRisk Laboratories

The heart is one of the most important organs so let's take care of it

CardioRisk Laboratories has opened it’s new location in South Jordan making it easier for anyone to take charge of their heart health and set up an appointment for a CIMT test. A CIMT test, is a Carotid Intima Media Thickness scan that evaluates the amount of atherosclerotic plaque building up in arteries. CardioRisk Laboratories, is a leader in preventive heart care by using cutting edge technology to provide clinics and physicians cost-effective, non-invasive procedures and products to improve the heart health of their patients.

Be kind to your heart: 5 tips to keep your heart healthy and plaque free

Celeste Gleave, founder of SHEROES United, a non-profit organization that identifies female role models; and a past president of Go Red, a national campaign by the American Heart Association, gives us her top 5 tips on how to keep your heart healthy.

1- Know your numbers such as blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), and cholesterol.  “The works” is what she calls it.  Knowing where your body is at will help you be able to see where there might need to be improvements.

2- Think about your diet. When it comes to your diet, she stresses, a balanced diet is key.

3- Know your family history. Facts about family history with disease or medical conditions are vitally important parcels of information.

4- Set up a great “feasible” exercise program, even if that means only exercising for 30 minutes a day.

5- Educate yourself! Know the signs and symptoms of heart disease. Women and men show or present warning signs differently, so be mindful.

When Fox 13 interviewed Todd Eldredge, President and CEO of CardioRisk Laboratories, he related the CIMT procedure to having plaque on a tooth. "If you have plaque on a tooth, you have it in your whole mouth," he said. "This is the same kind of concept that if you find plaque in the carotid artery, you're going to find it systemically."

The CIMT procedure only takes 10 minutes and costs $150.00 per person. Results come within two to five business days.  Knowing where there are high amounts of plaque can greatly cut down the risk of heart attack and stroke.

New Café in Holladay: Where Sticky Meets Savory

Ribbon cutting ceremony
We have a new neighbor just down the road from Jakob Marketing Partners. Great Harvest Bread Company Café officially opened their doors for business on Saturday, May 18.  The new location is next to Great Harvest Bread Company bakery on 4655 South 2300 East in Holladay. We sent our social media intern Tiffany Justice to taste test the baked goods.
"One of their newest creations they've rolled out is their sticky buns. The baking process is creative and the end product is delicious.  These sticky buns are made with Great Harvest's cinnamon burst bread dough. After the buns come out of the oven they're doused with their strawberry butter and then dipped in pecans," explains Tiffany Justice, Jakob Marketing Partners Social Media Intern.
Bakers produced 800 cookies for the grand opening
Great Harvest Bread Company Cafe Co-owners Peggy McVea and Steve Washburn are siblings. They came together to hand out free cookies and drinks to those who bought sandwiches. In addition they gave 10 percent of Saturday's net profit to the Road Home to help the homeless. "We want to give back to the community and help those in need in our own neighborhood," said Washburn.

Sweet definitely meets savory at Great Harvest Bread Company Café with their wide selection of sandwiches. Customers can choose between two menus of their premium and classics sandwiches. One of their most popular sandwiches is their classic turkey. A simple pleasure - it’s made with turkey, provolone cheese, tomatoes, mayo and lettuce pictured on the right below.

There's no shortage of treats at Great Harvest Bread Company Cafe. The cookie and bread samples are huge. On Saturday, kids also received free face painting and balloon animals. It was surely a trip to remember!

Adventure Pig Goes to 30 Women to Watch

“Today is the day,” I said to myself as I woke up. I could not contain my excitement! Today, our very own Julie Jakob would be named one of Utah’s 30 Women to Watch for 2012—a very prestigious award given to those who are exceptional leaders, entrepreneurs, change makers, and a mentor to many.

Today was a day of business and celebration, so I dressed to impress. I ironed my Jakob Marketing Partners cape, cleaned behind my ears, brushed my teeth, and came to the Grand America with a sense of pride. My cape was flying in the wind and the hairs on my chinny-chin-chin were tingling as I walked into the common room.

It was about to start! There were hundreds of people talking and laughing and getting to know one another. Booths from the event’s sponsors were set up and guess what… JMP came to impress! We had a booth filled with information and games. It was awesome to see everyone interacting and being so friendly (not to mention, we all looked goooooooood).

It was now time! I was so excited, I rushed into the award room and got a table for all my friends from JMP to join me. It was so nice! We were served a delicious three-course meal while the speakers of the event began their speeches. One of my favorite parts…? The dessert had a secret center of deliciousness! Okay, okay, back to the program! My other favorite part was seeing a slide show of all the women who won this prestigious award. Julie’s was my favorite, of course. In the slide show Julie was sure to put in a picture of her entire staff. I thought that was really nice how she made an effort to include all of us. She also showed a video about what it was like being the owner of a company. I loved every minute of it. While they were showing the slides Julie walked down the aisle and on stage to receive her award. I had chills for her! I was snorting and clapping and as happy as could be!

After the awards ceremony, our entire company went on stage! Oh man! Even though everyone was dismissed and leaving, I still became super nervous walking up there to take a group picture! I was afraid I was going to face plant going up the stairs! I don’t know how Julie looked so calm and collected when she walked to the platform to receive her award—she was smiling from ear to ear!

All in all, it was an amazing experience to see Julie receive this remarkable reward. Not only was it fun being with everyone from the company, but it was also fun being with Julie’s family and seeing how supportive they are.
